There's a problem with microfibre towels that rarely comes up at the point of sale: one wash can ruin them. Not physically destroy them — simply strip away the properties you bought them for.
The culprit is fabric softener. It works by coating fibres with a thin softening layer, which on cotton genuinely feels pleasant. On microfibre, that same layer seals the spaces between fibres — precisely where the water absorption happens. The towel starts repelling water instead of lifting it.
The Kawasaki K1F07-D7021 is good microfibre and, washed properly, will serve for years. Below is everything needed to keep it that way. 🏸
🧼 How to wash microfibre — five rules
30–40°C. Higher doesn't clean better; it accelerates polyester fibre degradation and weakens the print.
No fabric softener. The most important rule. If a towel has stopped absorbing, this is almost always why.
No tumble drying. Microfibre dries by itself within tens of minutes — a dryer isn't needed, and high heat melts the fine fibres and permanently flattens them.
Wash separately from cotton. Microfibre attracts cotton lint like a magnet. Washed with terry towels it comes out covered in fluff that's hard to remove.
No ironing. An iron destroys both the fibre structure and the sublimation print.
If the towel has lost absorbency after softener use, a wash in plain water with half a cup of vinegar helps — vinegar dissolves softener residue. It won't always restore the original state, but it usually improves matters.
⏳ How long good microfibre lasts
Microfibre doesn't wear out the way cotton does, thinning and losing its loops. It loses surface structure — the fibres gradually flatten and stick together, so the towel lifts less water per pass.
How fast that happens depends almost entirely on washing. Washed according to the rules above, the towel keeps its properties across hundreds of cycles. With regular softener and tumble drying it can lose effectiveness within months.
The sign it needs replacing: the towel pushes water across the skin rather than lifting it, and the surface turns from suede-like to slippery in the hand.
🔬 What separates good microfibre from cheap
Not every towel labelled microfibre behaves the same. Three things decide it:
Fibre fineness. The finer they are, the more fit into the same area and the more water the towel takes up. Cheap towels use coarser fibres, which makes them behave more like ordinary polyester.
Weave density. A sparse weave means less material and lower absorbency across the same area.
Edge finishing quality. The most common flaw in cheap towels is fraying edges after a dozen washes.
Kawasaki's microfibre has a smooth, suede-like surface with consistent structure — visible in the macro photographs and immediately apparent in the hand.
🔵 Blue print — a practical detail
The large blue "K" and the KAWASAKI SINCE 1915 logo are sublimation-printed into the fibre structure rather than sitting on the surface. Nothing can flake or crack away.
A practical aside: the model comes in three colours, and towels on a club bench look very much alike. Choosing a different colour from your teammates is the simplest way to avoid walking off with someone else's after a match.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions – Kawasaki K1F07-D7021
🧼 Why can't I use fabric softener?
Softener coats the fibres with a softening layer that seals the spaces between them — and that's exactly where microfibre holds water. The towel starts repelling moisture instead of lifting it. It's the most common reason people find that "microfibre stopped working".
🔄 Can a towel be saved after softener use?
Often, yes. Wash it in plain water with half a cup of vinegar, without detergent or softener. Vinegar dissolves the residue. A repeat may be needed; after repeated softener use, recovery is sometimes partial.
⏳ How long will it last?
Washed at 30–40°C, without softener and without tumble drying — hundreds of wash cycles with no noticeable loss of performance. Cared for incorrectly, a towel can lose effectiveness within months.
🧵 Is this a cotton towel?
No. It's 100% polyester in microfibre form. If you're after cotton terry, the right choice is the K1F07-D7020 in a 100 × 40 cm format — also in our range.
⚡ How quickly does it dry?
Typically within tens of minutes, depending on air humidity. Many times faster than cotton — hence microfibre's popularity in tournament sport, at the pool and while travelling.
💧 Does microfibre absorb less than cotton?
In a single pass, slightly less than thick terry. It releases water far faster, though, so it's ready to use again moments later. Across several matches in a day that's an advantage, not a drawback.
🎨 Will the print wear off?
Sublimation printing penetrates the fibre structure, so there's no layer that could crack. Washing at 30–40°C preserves the colour for a long time. High temperatures and bleach can weaken it.
🎨 Which colours is this model available in?
The manufacturer offers three versions: white and blue (this listing), white and red, and white and green. All share identical specifications and differ only in print colour.
🏊 Is it suitable for the pool?
Yes — fast drying is especially valuable there. Rinse the towel in clean water after contact with chlorinated water; chlorine weakens the fibres of any material over time.
