🔬 Microfibre: how it actually works

A microfibre strand is many times finer than a cotton one, so vastly more of them fit into the same area. It's the number of fibres, not their absorbency, that makes the towel work.

Water doesn't penetrate the fibre structure the way it does in cotton — it becomes trapped in the spaces between fibres. That has two consequences: the towel releases water as readily as it takes it up (hence the fast drying), and the fabric stays light even when damp.

The surface is smooth, close to suede in the hand — with none of the loops that give terry towels their characteristic plush structure.
